Today is Safer Internet Day – a time dedicated to promoting safe and responsible use of the online technology and mobile phones for children and young people. First originating in the U.K. 2004, it is now a global safety celebration recognized in over 70 countries worldwide.
Connect With Respect
In the U.K. Safer Internet Day 2013 – the tenth edition of the event – is celebrated with the theme of Online Rights and Responsibilities, encouraging users to 'Connect with Respect". I encourage you to take a moment and view the "Connect with Respect" video below along with

A "Pledge for Good"
In the U.S.,
A Platform for Good - a project of the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI) - is recognizing Safer Internet Day by launching a "Pledge for Good." On their site, you have the opportunity to make a simple pledge: "I will use my power for good." The purpose of the pledge is not to change behavior, but to highlight what great things people are already doing with technology. In celebration of Safer Internet Day, I encourage you and your family to join in and take the
pledge. Let the world know that online technology is a platform for good. You can also check out their online safety resources in their
Resource Center.

This is great that they dedicated a day to this. Hopefully it will raise awareness about potential issues and how to protect yourself and others.

This is a great idea. But unfortunately the only people who will pay attention to it are the people who wouldn't do any harm anyway.
So, one has to wonder how much use this kind of iniative really is?
Do you think it changes anything in reality?
